  • Why dont you want your parents finding out?
  • Yes, indeed. If you are over 16, your parents cannot stop you getting any medical treatment you want without having to discuss it with them. If you are under that age, you might try discussing it with a school counsellor to see what can be done to bring your parents on side. But, above all, get help. I didn't when I was young because depression was a no-no in my house. Looking back, though, I was clearly in trouble, and needed help. All I was getting though was verbal abuse and threats of institutionalising me (would never have happened: what would the neighbours think?) I often wonder ,if I had got help at 16 instead of 40, might I have had an easier life? Moot question now, I suppose, but it was interesting that my mother was diagnosed as depressive towards the end of her life, and still railed against it. My sister has also had bouts of it, so I guess there is a hereditary element in it. But it is a medical problem like any other, and needs treatment. All the best. Let me know how you are going, and if you want to talk, go to the profile page and get my website and look for my email(Sue). I am a pastor's wife, so have done a little counselling for many years.
