  • How long has it been since you changed the coolant? Are you running the A/C when it runs hot? Until you find the problem, what you can do is roll the down the windows, turn the temperature knob to full heat and the fan to high. Shut off the A/C. This will suck some heat out of the engine and help bring the temperature down a it. I find it odd that it's overheating on the highway and not in the city. Normally, the flow of cold air being forced into the engine on the highway helps cool the engine, while the idling in town leads to over heating. Odd.. Hope this helps, Good luck
  • The fan staying on is normal. Your thermostat might not be opening all the way. It's very cheap to replace, just make sure you don't put it in backwards. Also since it's a 91 your radiator may be starting to clog. It's probably the thermostat though.
