First of all, you do NOT have a cable-operated clutch. It is a hydraulic clutch system. The most likely problem is that either the clutch master cylinder (mounted on the firewall near the brake master cylinder) or the slave cylinder (mounted on the passenger side of the transmission) has failed. Of the two, the slave cylinder seems to fail more often on Miatas. Since the car is 17 years old, it's probably wsie to change both at the same time so you can ignore it for another 17 years. http://www.miata.net/garage/mastercyl.html http://www.miata.net/garage/slavecyl.html Good luck.
