America prides itself on the family, why do they then send their kids away in the summer to camp?

My mom would like to rest for a while during at camp when I was there. I think that everyone needs a break sooner or later.

I loved summer camp! Some of my best memories were at summer camp. We rode horses.. swam.. held small competitions and did crafts. It promoted team work and staying active. My parents sent me I think to keep my idleness from getting the best of me. Summer camp provided lots of fun and activities. I went two summers and never got into any major trouble.. the years after that I wish my parents had sent me because I was into everything I should not have been while school was out. Most summer camps only last a few weeks and not the whole summer. Some may but not most. I think it is just a way to keep kids out of trouble and active and learning while having fun. -- We sang around campfires at night and the whole nine. It was a great experience and I am glad my parents sent me. I support summer camps and can still from time to time remember the smells and sounds.
