  • I think it stems from the Christian religion, the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost. 3 and 7 are considered numbers of God. (I think)
  • Because three is a magic number...
  • Lucky? that depends how you look at it. In the First World War it was considered very unlucky. Nobody would take a third light from a match for a cigarette. It was because they thought the third man would get the bullet. 1 The sniper would see them 2 He would aim 3 He would fire his rifle. Result one dead or wounded soldier
  • "Three...is considered a good number in Chinese culture because it sounds like the word "alive"...Counting to three is common in situations where a group of people wish to perform an action in synchrony" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_%28number%29#As_a_lucky_or_unlucky_number
  • Numbers are funny things. Different cultures consider different numbers lucky or unlucky for their own reasons. I know that my mother (Anglo-Celtic) always thought three was unlucky. If someone died, she would always be waiting for two more deaths. However, some parts of Europe say it is lucky because it is linked to the Trinity. Human beings are always trying to make order out of chaos. That is why they are obsessed with numbers.
