Yes...just say I don't know. Show you're confident enough about yourself to admit it. Honesty is not weakness--it's a strength. There are enough people who lie because they're too insecure to admit that they don't know something. They're weak on the inside--no matter what they try to project. There are enough lying weaklings around--keep your self-esteem above that!

Yes. However, I wouldn't go around answerbag cluttering things up with lots of "I don't know" answers.

I have no problem saying I don't know...or saying can you please explain....I don't understand.....anything of that sort....I will say I don't know but I will find out.....and actually do so...there is nothing wrong with being honest....you can't know everything and because you weren't taught something doesn't mean you are stupid....Ignorance can be healed....arrogance can't.....

Lets say you are in a business and you have a client and they ask you a question. For exaple > You are a mortgage broker and your client asks will i be pre approved for a home loan even though i dont have a house to get an appraisal on. would you say i dont know. Definatley not because, if so the client would feel that you were un educated in your line of work because i obviously the client doesnt know the answer to what he/she asked because, if they did they wouldnt be asking.

but yes in some case i dont know is ok to use. maybe outside of the business world but in business never a good decison to use the phrase i dont know

If you want to retain your integrity, you do. It's funny, but the more educated people become, the more difficulty they have admitting that there are limits to their knowledge. But we all do, even within our fields of specialization. The secret is to say: "I don't know, but I can find out for you." Then, do it.

  • My sister used to always make fun of me if someone used a word and I would ask that person what the word meant. I suppose she thought it showed mental weakness. I think it shows a desire to learn and not sit there and be ignorant. Never be afraid to admit you don't know something because it will usually lead to a learning experience.

I frequently do. The field of what i do not know is far vaster than that of what I know. I might as well admit it and let curiosity lead me to seek the truth.

I try to. Sometimes I don't and I'm not afraid to admit it. However, I will then go and do some research, if it is within my power to do so.
