Wow fascinating I need to goto the country , this is a sight I have to see every bird in the country always flying at the front of all the cars. I can not tell you why but it must be a fascinating sight.

They dont mean to. Birds have no natural predator that moves as fast as a car, so its speed screws up their perception of how far away the car is and how soon it will actually hit them. Its a misjudgement on their part, so thats why brakeing just a bit usually gives them enough extra time to realize and get out of the way.
