  • Put a tarp down on the ground, and tie the rope securely between two trees. Apply tarp over the rope, and if you have any rope left over, tie the groundsheet to the tarp you just put over the rope.
  • Stay off the ground and sleep in the trees! Find two strong tree trunks with just the right distance between and attach a tarp as a hammock and over head make a low canopy draped over another line or two! Learn how to do this at home before going out and then you'll know what to bring rope and plastic wise!
  • Lay a tarp on the ground between two trees. Tie a rope between the two trees. Half another tarp on the ropes, and use sticks as spikes, or rocks as weight, to widen the tent. Roll out the sleeping bags, and tell your date you planned it this way all along.
  • My brother and I would go backpacking in the mountains of Montana when we were younger and never carried a tent. Since there aren't many bugs in the mountains we did the tarp tent which was to drape it over a rope lengthwise and then tie down the corners. Another tarp on the ground for our sleeping bags. In minnesota we always use a tend because of the mosguitoes.
