Insects are life. Almost all living life will need oxygen to survive, and the insects fall in that class.
-
Nearly every living thing in some way breathes, even plants.

The respiratory system of an insect is made up of a series of tubes, called tracheae, which extend into the body cavity. Tracheae divide into smaller tubes called trachoeles, which carry oxygen directly to the tissues inside the insects body. Tracheae open to the outside of the body through openings called spiracles, usually located on the sides of the thorax and abdomen. However the larval form of some insects that live in water have no spiracles. But in any event insects draw air into the tracheae and expel air by expanding and contracting their body wall. Some can also open and close the spiracles to avoid drawing any harmful materials into the tracheae. But to answer your question in short yes insects can and do breathe.
-
Yes, they do. Most breathe through tiny holes in their skin called spiracles, while others may breathe by air bubble and air tube.
