Headlight adjustment, hubcap removal, hose clamp tightening, checking fluid levels, emergency window breaking, tightening loose screws, cleaning dirt out of the weather stripping, emptying ashtray, prying off wheel bearing dust caps to cheack grease, testing iginition (checking for spark), checking and adjusting points (on some cars), jumping starter solenoid (on some cars), prying rocks from tires, releasing air from tires and finally playing the drum solo intro to Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" on the dashboard.

Note: Replacing a flat tire or jump starting both require tools other than flathead and phillips screwdrivers.

I'm sorry I missed the spirit of your question. Actually, many of the items on the list ARE repairs, temporary fixes, or at least diagnostic proceedures that could help a person figure out what was needed to make the required repair.

That said, the tools "available to most" vary greatly from person to person. Some people carry inexpensive tool kits that at least include pliers, ratchet and sockets along with screw drivers. Some people carry enough tools to rebuild an engine on the side of the road, and some people carry nothing beyond car keys and a prayer.

I belong to the first category, one that I believe many (maybe or maybe not most) people fit into. In that senario, the type of repairs that can be done varies entirely with the skill set of the person. Of course, the "no parts" limitation puts a bit of a damper on things, but you'd be suprised at what can be done with zip ties and duct tape.
