I read that Darwin had denounced his own conjecture. How is it that so many have taken up after him?

I am a Christian, but I am pretty sure that the story of Darwin recenting his theories is not true. I had a look around the net, and found that there is no evidence to the fact that he did recant his theory of evolution. Here is a good page: http://www.holysmoke.org/cretins/darwin2.htm

I think people read to far into some statements of his inability to fully explain. Also he did however expresse concern over the fate of his youthful speculations and to have spoken in favor of a few people's attending a religious meeting.

That rumor was started by some lady named like "lady grace" or something similar who apparently tried to preach to him on his death bed. When he died, she went out and falsly claimed that he recanted his theory and became a victorian fundie just like her.
