It depends on what you mean by "on its own".

If you mean "could the Soviet army of 1940-1941 have stopped the German invasion and launched a successful counteroffensive and invasion of western Europe without any Allied help whatsoever", I would say No. The Allies, particularly the U.S., supplied the Soviet Union with massive amounts of equipment, including fighter planes, transport planes, trucks, jeeps, etc. Without this aid I think they still could have stopped the German invasion but I don't think they could have carried on an offensive war into Western Europe. The war probably would have ended in a stalemate.

On the other hand, If you mean "could the Soviet army of 1944-1945 have continued its offensive into Germany and beyond", I would say Yes, and they would have overrun all of continental Europe even into Spain, and it all would have become communist.

In light of the preceeding analysis, I think the greatest result of the Allied invasion that began at D-Day, 6 June 1944, was not to save Western Europe from the Nazis, but to save it from the Russians.
