My Mum, since I am not religious.

My mother but in all things religious I would listen to the pope. To me they are not an "either or" situation but an "if than" situation.

neither - switch off when they both start... the pope is boring and my mum just nags!!!!

According to the HQ your parents come second only to God in terms of deserving your attention. This is what HQ 17:23-24 says "Thy Lord hath decreed, that ye worship none save Him, and (that ye show) kindness to parents. If one or both of them attain old age, say not "Fie" unto them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word. And lower unto them the wing of submission through mercy, and say: My Lord! Have mercy on them both as they did care for me when I was little." In HQ 29:8 however, God says you must not obey your parents if they ask you to disobey God "We have enjoined on man kindness to parents; but if they strive to make thee join with Me that of which thou hast no knowledge, then obey them not. Unto Me is your return and I shall tell you what ye used to do."
