I suffer with migraines. I take Imigran also known as Sumatriptan and try to knock myself out before it really gets a hold. The two or three day hangover period can be horrendous. I am on a trial of Beta Blockers or blood pressure pills Proprananol, maybe they help, I do not seem to have as many really bad episodes. Maybe now my eyes have been done they will not be as frequent

I used to have migraines all the time, at least 3-5 each month. I rarely get them now since I watch what I eat and got my back in alignment froma chiropractor. But when they do come, now maybe 1 every two months or so, I try toi get by with motrin, a dark room and 24 hours. I don't do well with stronger migraine specific drugs. THey make me sick and they are expensive. So I do what I can.

Midrin works great for me. (It's a prescription med.)

I do. I take three Alive and put an ice pack on the back of my neck while laying down in a dark room to sleep with no noise.

My elder daughter had a brain tumour. In the operation, nerves were severed that activate whenever she has a virus. They cause sever migraines for several days at a time, and she has a constant headache. Panadol does not work. Other painkillers contradict other medicine she is on. The only thing she can do is sleep.

As a child I suffered with cluster headaches..much worse than migraines. I had my mother cover my windows with blankets....suffered intensley. My eyes would be crossed the whole time. Bad temperature and throwing my guts up....a Doctor told my parents the next time it happened to bring me to the ER They did and put me breathing straight O2..(oxygen) That would allow more oxygen through my vessels in the brain. Ya see when you have a migraine the vessels shrink...not allowing enough oxgenated blood to the brain...this Dr solved my problem and even said I would grow out of this. I'm 39 years old now and havent had that type of headache since the fall of 1986.

I have had migranes since the age of 4. I now get them usually bi monthy associated with my cycle. I take Axert and Darvacet as needed. If that doesn't work, I have vycodin as a back up. In Jan I started seeing a chiroprator. It hasn't hurt, but hasn't helped yet either. Also, my doctor recently put me on Topamax daily. You may think this is too many med, but they are taken as needed and also, since I am approaching menapause, my body is changing and it is reacting with the chemical changes. It is my prayer that after menapause, they will go away. I believe I have suffered enough.

I've had them for as long as I can remember. In adulthood they've become worse (i.e. puking, feeling like the top of my skull will blow off). I haven't been able to identify any triggers other than possibly a drastic change in barometric pressure and/or an end to a long period of extreme strees; it 's not consistent, but the closest I can get to pinpointing it. Maxalt-MLT works wonders because it dissolves in your mouth and is less likely to be vomited before it can take effect. I've also found that sometimes taking two standard Ibuprofen (Advil) tablets and two standard Benadryl (or generic) when I think a migraine's coming on can nip it in the bud. Otherwise I'm in for a rough ride. I've also been prescribed Compazine suppositories to stop the nausea, but that hasn't always been effective.

I used to have migraines. My dentist told me I had a slipped TMJ disk and it was probably causing my migraines. Skeptical of the outcome I had spacers to push my top and bottom teeth out to the sides and braces for about a year and a half...the outcome, NO MIGRAINES! Yay...I still get those annoying headaches that come alone with my cycle but don't have to suffer those right now either! (Until August!)

Sometimes. My best cure for them is to take a double dose of Advil's Mirgraine formula; then climb into the tub, turn on the shower head to the absolute hottest water I can stand, and then soak my head under the spray until we run out of hot water.

yes I get them along with my cycle. I take Excederine Migraine as soon as I feel one starting. It takes care of it and then it doesn't get bad and usually even goes away. Someone told me it is the caffeine in the Excederine for Migraines that does the trick. So I am thinking if you are prone to them perhaps a bit of caffeine everyday is good for you?

I don't get them, but my dad has gotten really bad ones his whole life and he takes something called immigran or immigram. its dr prescribed only, but is the only thing that works for him. without it, he will have a migraine for days, but take one of those and its gone in half an hour.

Relpax works most of the time for, Maxalt worked for me to. Imitrex did nothing, no matter how much I took

i was prescribed zomig and it actually worked quite well for me- it was a triptan inhibitor, i guess...? all i know was that it was supposed to widen the blood vessels in the brain. unfortunately, i was prescribed SSRIs (antidepressants) 2 months ago and can no longer take the zomig since these medications will conflict badly, so now, when i get a migraine, i'm pretty much out of luck. i try to sleep in total darkness and silence with a cold cloth around my neck and on my forehead- no painkiller will even put a dent in it.

Lesser ones I can usually knock off with with an Excedrin and some coffee. For the worse ones though I've got Imitrex pills, or the Imitrex injection if I'm vomiting or if I need it gone quick (exam in half an or or something). They usually help.

One day I was on the road driving and I had a migraine making it's way.....I had no medication so I stopped at a gas station and picked up the only thing they had........Goody's powder........My headache was gone in about 30 seconds...........I've used it ever since.

Yes I get migraines. It is one of the associated types of headache I get from having idiopathic intracranial hypertension. I just take 500mg of paracetamol with 30mg of codiene. However, I have been researching and their is a spray you can get called Imogran that you squirt up your nose. Next time I see my GP I will ask about it. If you get persistent migraines it may be related to an underlying treatable neurological condition. Please, in addition to the GP get an appointment to the opticians and mention your migraines. It may sound silly but the opticians can discover alot more neurological conditions than your GP.

I take Midrin for them and think it works just great. My son takes Midrin and Excedrin Migraine. My daughter takes Midrin. My sister takes Imitrex. My mother can't take anything but aspirin. All of the females in my family suffer from migraines but only two of the males do. One little tip that works for us: if you start having a migraine with auras (rainbows, zigzags, etc.), try chewing on a aspirin the second you see the visual disturbance. Yes, it tastes gross but it seems to head off the visual disturbances really fast. We don't know why and doctors say "whatever works."

Ok you are all going to think this is strange. I have had Migraines for 20+ years. I was in the clinical trial for Imitrex shots. They were a god send. The first thing that ever even touched them. A few years back a nurse friend of mine that does clinical research suggested that I try Niacin (yes Vitamin B). One of the side effects of it is opening up all the blood vessels, much like Imitrex does. A couple things. I started with a low dose of the regular Niacin (Do not get the "non-flushing") 100 or 150 mg. I would suggest that you try it before you have a Migraine, so you know what it feels like. You will "flush” (if you are really pale like I am, you look like you lay in the sun WAY to long). I tried 300mg one time, it felt like my nose was going to fill up with blood till it popped. I have also found that if you take it with a pain reliever and some caffeine it works faster. I know that some of you are out there thinking, like I did, if this works why someone isn’t telling people about it. Well if you think about it, companies that make drugs like Imatrex would not make any money off something that they cannot put a patent on, like a vitamin. Why should the research that?

I normally take Advil Migranine or Midrin. The best thing that works for me is to lay down in a quiet area without any light for a while.

I used to have a girlfriend that used to get them really bad. I took a class in massage therapy to see if I could help her. She used to say that my head massages were the only thing that made her feel better. It may not work for everyone but I feel like it's probably worth a shot. Couldn't hurt, right? =)

nothing really gets rid of them except sleep. So Usually what I do its take Two ALEVE Drink a coke, and Go lay down. They suck, best of luck to you.
