  • Many in the insect world but none I can think of amongst animals unless out of desperation.
  • black widows. some sharks do before they are even born.
  • I know Pirahnas do. My brother and his roommate had a tank full of 3 of them and when they started getting to big, they started disappearing until there was only one left. I guess goldfish wasn't good enough anymore.
  • There are still human cannibals in parts of the world. Some species of monkeys have been known to be cannibalistic also. Gross, but, true .
  • lots of birds eat hatchlings..rats and mice...ground squirrels..lions do sometimes...baboons do sometimes... http://en.allexperts.com/q/Wild-Animals-705/Animals-kill-young.htm
  • When i was a kid, i was horrified to find that my mouse had eaten both her husband and litter of 7. I was told then by a friend that perhaps it was because I hadn't fed her often enough, and she didn't want to share her small morsels with anymouse else. Oooops! My son now has mice.....they are obese...lol.
  • Sure, lots of animals will eat their own species. There are some snakes, for instance, will eat other snakes almost exclusively.
  • Pigs will. If one dies they will chow down on it.
  • Many animal mothers stay away from the males because they will kill or eat their young. We once had Moscovey ducks and had many babies. All of a sudden one of the males started gulping them down right and left. It was horrible. And it happened just as some kids came to visit the ranch. THey were screaming and I ran over and tried to save as many as I could. We lost 6 of them!
  • Sure.Cats will eat kittens, hamsters ( Male ) will eat the babies, sows will eat there pigs,Some snakes will eat other snakes(we need more of those). But its not true that we do not eat our species.Cannabils(hope thats how you spell that) have been eating humans for a long time.Even today there are tribes in different countries that eat there dead.
  • fun fact: If you raise chickens and they lay too many eggs, throw some in the pen and let them break open. They will devour them. Down side? It makes them peck each other's feathers off and seem a little crazy.
  • That's not true! Some humans are cannibals, some tribes eat human flesh in spitirual ceremonies. Some other species are cannibalistic - Animals may resort to cannibalism when they have a new litter, especially if they are stressed or if the young have been handled and the scent of the human is left behind. Sometimes male animals may kill and eat young males, but the cannibalism is probably secondary there - and many males fight; check out Siamese fighting fish. And talking of fish - when you breed some fish in captivity, you need to fit the tank with a net that the eggs can drop through, otherwise they will get eaten very quickly by the parents!
  • My parrot loves eggs... he prefers them hard-boiled..
  • Who ever said that we don't? There have been plenty of examples of human cannibalism, even excluding instances of extreme desperation like the Donner party. In prehistoric times before humans had perfected the craft of agriculture, dietary cannibalism was very common simply because it was the only way to get all the necessary nutrients in one's daily diet. Even after that, exophagy, the eating of members of rival clans or tribes during times of war, as well as many other varieties of ritualistic cannibalism, have been common throughout much of mankind's history, and believe it or not, still exists in some cultures. The only reason we don't at our own kind is because we live in a "Society", in primitive and primal settings, humans are no more above eating their own kind than any other animal. Insects do it, some fish do it, even some mammals, like rats, dogs, cats, primates, etc. have been known to eat their own kind, and humans, in our "Natural Habitat" aren't much different.
  • 1) Here some information about cannibalismus in the human species: "Care should be taken to distinguish among ritual cannibalism sanctioned by a cultural code, cannibalism by necessity occurring in extreme situations of famine, and cannibalism by mentally disturbed people." Source and further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannibalism 2) Here some information about cannibalismus in zoology: "In zoology, cannibalism is a common ecological interaction in the animal kingdom and has been recorded for more than 1500 species (this estimate is from 1981, and likely a gross underestimation). Unlike previously believed, cannibalism is not just a result of extreme food shortage or artificial conditions, but commonly occurs under natural conditions in a variety of species."
