Why do they call it a dollarstore if nothing is a dollar?

Most dollar stores where I live are one of two catagories. Either EVERYTHING is one dollar, or it is a discount store like Dollar General where everthing is a even dollar ($3.00 or $7.00 you get the idea)amount and supposedly less expensive than a regular store.

In order to keep their license, a certain percentage of the items sold in a store, has to be a dollar. If you remember the old five and dime stores. same applies here. they started the business by selling everything for a nickel or a dime. then, inflation hit and nothing in that store was a nickel or dime. it soon went out of business.

Most of the dollar stores aound here sell things for a dollar or several things for sa dollar. Some sell things at even dollars but they are few and far between.
