Okay, I got this for Christmas on DVD and one of the special features is the story of how they restored it. Apparently it was so badly aged that they couldn't really use it anymore so I'm guessing that they were waiting until they produce a whiz-bang version before they released it on DVD.

The company that released the movie (Universal)announced that they would cease distribution of the film at the end of 2006. Just recently, in early-to-mid February to be more specific, I heard in a local news report that every major and independent movie studio in the United States would cease distribution of a large quantity of movies after December 31, 2009, and by the end of August, they would be releasing lists of the movies that they will no longer distribute for sale or rental after this year is over. I was wondering why this is happening, whether it was a cost-cutting move, or for what other reason(s) this is happening.
