The Shining has always been my favorite, but Amityville Horror and The Exorcist are very close seconds. The books are always better than the movies.

The Stand. Though, sorry to say, the movie was really 'stupid'.

I read Needful Things by Steven King. I wasted nearly half of a summer's free time on this book since it was so huge. I don't tend to read scary things as that fiction really isn't a genre that I am into. I prefer non-fiction.

Seize the Night by Dean Koontz

"Rosemary's Baby" but I think the fact that I read it when I was only 13 or 14 and had a REALLY high fever didn't help matters.

Imperial Life in The Emerald City by Rajiv Chandrasekaran http://www.amazon.com/Imperial-Life-Emerald-City-Inside/dp/1400044871/ It illustrates how completely clueless and amoral the Bush administration was about invading Iraq. Example: They need someone to run the Iraq health ministry. The leading US expert on running medical care in a war zone (veteran of Kosovo and other war zones) is a Democrat. So they reject him. Instead, they get a Kool-aid drinking Republican from Michigan whose first act upon getting to Iraq is to initiate an anti-smoking campaign....in a war-torn country where people don't have doctors, or hospital beds, or antibiotics, or wound dressings, etc.
