Among Laodicea's "most famous medicines were an ointment made from spice nard, which strengthened the ears, and Phrygian powder, obtained by crushing Phrygian stone"http://philologos.org/bpr/files/l001.htm

Another source said it was made of alum. www.ourfatherlutheran.net/biblehomelands/sevenchurches/laodicea/laodictxt.htm

It also, like most medicines, had olive oil in it.www.subversiveinfluence.com/articles/laodicea.shtml

"Phrygian stone is so called from the country which produces it, and is a porous mass like pumice."http://books.google.com/books?id=IEoMAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA362&lpg=PA362&dq=phrygian+stone&source=web&ots=wji7lrZJpo&sig=gWe83I7v-Y9IlO9ou34c6V_GITk

I cannot find anyone who has an exact recipe, however. It has probably been lost over the centuries. Physicians often kept their remedies a secret. However, the cost of the ointment and its popularity throughout the empire indicate that it must have worked.
    Hope that helps.
