I'm doing a system restore booting from the Windows XP proffesional cd. It tells me to type something after C:\>, what do I type in?

I think you mean you are in the recovery console. The system restore is available thru the Start menu under Accessories > System Tools. If you boot from the CD it will give you a choice of recovery console or re-installing Windows. If you choose the recovery console you can type "help" to see a list of commands. On the other hand, if you choose installing Windows, then if you already have Windows installed, it will ask you if you want to repair the operating system. It will try to repair Windows without deleting all your files. This is probably the easiest option.
