the purpose of the tire is to keep u from dying lol ne ways the tread is so it can dig into the surface area manily dirt nd snow so u get more grip on it, the deeper the tread the better the grip comprehenday? lol

If the only driving conditions we ever encountered was dry smooth pavement with little or no dirt/debris, we could all drive around on racing slicks. Because we encounter dirt/debris/rain/snow/etc., tires need to have tread to 'bite' into the surface and to channel away water/snow/mud.

Treads help to absorb bumps, reduce road noise, reduce friction with the road (to improve fuel economy and handling), funnel away water from between the road and the tire, grip the road when cornering, bite into any materials on the road (snow, ice, gravel) and prevent slipping, and overall to keep the vehicle on the road. The tires are the only contact your vehicle has with the road. Treads help to ensure that contact is used the best way.
