  • No, there should not be any ill effects. When an air conditioner runs it simply draws in ambient air, passes it through a cold radiator (actually removing a lot of dust and particulate matter), sometimes running through a filter which makes the air even more sterile. If you are concerned, see if there is an outside air vent that you can engage. This will mix the room air with a small amount of outside air which will increase general air circulation. Air conditioners can over-dry air which would potentially bother asthmatics or those with sinus/snoring problems.
  • Supplementing the other answer... Make sure you clean or replace the filter on a regular basis, as well as cleaning the coils inside the A/C unit. Ensure that any drains are not blocked. Dust can accumulate in the filter and on the coils, making the A/C run less efficiently. It also helps the filter to collect moisture which, combined with condensed moisture on the coils, leads to the growth of mold and mildew inside the A/C unit..
  • No. if it did, half the world population would be non-existant.
  • Ill effects can be measured by just not "feeling good". Many people I have been around report just a decrease in feelings of well-being while being in air conditioning. The ocean air gives a different feeling, as does polluted urban air. I personally feel that if you have basically clean air outside, you should try living without air conditioning for a while and see if you feel better or not. I moved to the ocean with one of the greatest desires being to experience ocean air regularly. I real;ize this is not possible for many people, but the concept of living in natural air is viable for everyone.
