I moved to florida because I was too depressed in the north with little sunlight. There is a condition called "SAD" meaning Seasonal Adjustment Disorder (sometimes called Seasonal Affective Disorder), and the degree of it varies among individuals. It has to do with the a sensitivity with the amount of solar energy your body is absorbs. With a lack of solar energy, I too get depressed. There are some workarounds, like getting solar-generating lights in your home. Read about SAD here: http://www.outsidein.co.uk/sadinfo.htm

I live in Florida and I love the dark and rainy days. I think too much of either is depressing. Too much sun wears you down and out after rejuvenating you for a while.. and the dark days let you relax and recoup but not too long because then you stay down.. there has to be a balance.. hence the seasons.. something like blue in the winter.. springy in the spring .. full speed in the summer and mellow in the fall.

Listen to Here comes the sun by the Beatles. Its a great song and the lyrics answer your question quite well.

I notice I relax more when the sun is not out. Nothing seems depressing just more relaxed. I'm a night owl anyway, so the sundown just relaxes me.

It just seems like then people tend to kick back on there couch watch movies there lazy feeling which seems tiring and depressing to me...I love it when it completely blue sky and warm I feel good then, and have energy and want to do things, but I do agree with an answer above that there does need ro be a balance and hence for the seasons because I totally get that after summers over and kids are heading back to school I am ready for the kick back watch movie time.

I am just the opposite..I have more energy and want to go outside to garden or walk when the sun is not out.

While I DO agree the sun is bright and cheerful, too much of anything can get annoying. Bring on the clouds and rain for relaxation and replenishing Mother Earth.ahh.....!

The sun's insolation allows us to play outside, hangout with friends, girl/boyfriends, or basically just to be out and be active. The rain just pounds and falls, enabling us to do all those activities. Laziness and a depressing state come into action, putting everyone into a bad mood.

We were talking together I said, "what's up with this weather?" Don't know whether or not How sad I just got 'Cause on my own volition. What if I'm just missing the sun And tomorrow, I know, Will be rainy at best. And the forecast, I know, Is that I'll be depressed. But I'll wait outside Hoping that I'll catch sight of the sun. Because on and off, The clouds have fought Their control over the sky And lately the weather Has been so Bi-polar And consequently so have I
