A coworker offered to sell me his approx. 17 year old Mitsubishi 50 inch rear projection television. He says it works and I would trust him that it would. How much should I be willing to pay for it?

are you in the usa? because you only have 2 years before you will HAVE to own an HD or an HD compatable tv. also note that rear projection TVS are extremely delecate when moving!!

I am in the US. In 2 years all the older tvs will be useless? This is the first I've heard of this. My husband is big into buying old tvs. We have at least one TV in almost every room of the house. Should I tell him to stop buying them? He offered it to me for $50 if I come and pick it up (which I can do, since I have a pickup. Thanks for the info/advice.

In the US, all cable signals will go to digital but they will offer a HD converter for $50.00 so that you can still use your older TV. They are also going to offer a $25.00 credit on any converter purchase, as for the 17 year old TV, it is not worth much because the lamps where out, you can purchase a 4 year old model for around $800.00 used if you look around.

Rear projector TVs are notorious for suffering from burn-in, check that it doesn't suffer from this.
