  • Sort of. Low blood sugar or high blood sugar can make one irritable, confused, and/or sleepy generally speaking. Some people get very silly or outright vicious. Sometimes these are the only warning signs that a diabetic needs to eat or take their insulin.
  • I believe not only can they have mood swings, but people in general when their blood/sugar levels are off.
  • Oh yeah....if my normally sunny nature starts to slide down hill...I need to eat some protein more than likely with a few carbs.
  • WHEN THIS HAPPENS TO ME MY EYES START TO LOOK LIKE THE hulk SO I'M TOLD. THE BEST THING FOR ME IS TO JUST WALK AWAY FROM EVERYTHING AND TRY TO ZONE IN ON MYSELF AT FIRST IT WAS A SCARY FEELING BUT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO OFTEN,SO U LEARN WHAT'S BEST FOR U!!!
  • What's it to you and where the hell did I put my insulin?
  • Yes i think they have mood swings.
  • I have seen it first hand amongst co-workers. It's quite unpredictable what some of them will say next. Some of them can turn on you like a pit bull at times. This one woman I worked with about 3 years ago was a classic case. She could be nice to you in one moment and quite mean and vicious the next. We know this is part of the condition so it is alright to accept this behavior and wave it off as part of the diabetes.
  • Many people react emotionally to fluccuations in hormone levels. It is a common problem with diabetics. Generally speaking, mood swings are associated with really high or really low blood sugar levels. The best thing to do is to check the person's sugar, or have them check it to get better control, especially if they happen frequently.
  • Enormous mood swings!!! Sometimes hard to live with or be around:-(
  • My husband was diagnosed 10 years ago and both my daughter and I miss the man we used to know. He is crabby and quite brutal at times. He doesn't seem to know what we are talking about. He also will get confused and make wacky decisions. With the information I have gathered today, I will ask him to check his sugar when he starts getting testy.

  • If they have their diabetes under good control, then you won't see that very often. If they don't,then low or high blood sugars can cause mood swings.
  • I am a newly diagnosed diabetic and i can so relate to feeling moody. i am aware that when my sugars go high i have this internal rage going on. the problem is that it appears to be there for no reason, ie i am aware i am feeling like i want to rip everyone and everything apart yet i have no realistic purpose for doing so. being quite a pacifist my internal rages are displayed in sarcasm and being awkward. i don't mean to feel this way i just do. most people are not very understanding and if i find myself being this way i just continually remind myself that its my system out of kilter and i need to remain calm, which can be extremely difficult.
  • All the systems of the body are connected. When 1 is off balnce it affects at least one other noticeably..and the others...and the others. Blood sugars, hormone levels and brain chemicals are very closely connected.
  • yes i don't think diabetes effects that
  • Maybe if people were more supportive when someone seems a little tired or confused they wouldn't get as moody. People around should be thankful they don't have the disease and have more compassion. Then there would be less mood swings that are negative! But this never happens because most people are self-centered!
  • Everyone does. Seeing how diabetes is a problem of proper blood sugar control level this however may well be another side effect.
  • yes. i deff. do when my sugar is high. it drives everybody crazy. lol. oh well i cant help it.
