I live in a city where our School Board has cut teachers, classes, and after school programs, while raising taxes. I am 20, I live w/Parents, and have 1 brother & 10 cousins in the school system. I have the resources to run for the Board, should I & why?

Are you sure that it is the School Board which has done the things, not the City Legislature, the State or the Federal government? In most places, School Boards do not raise taxes directly, but get funding from one or more of the sources. If funding is cut off, the School Board will have to make cuts whether they want to or not. You need to find out where the funding has been cut, and attack at that level.

I don't know about your city, but in mine, the school board is exclusively Democrats. No Republicans or independents have won in a while. This means that, in order to win, one has to run under the Democratic platform. If one wants to reform the school board, the Democrats sure are not going to give endorsement. Maybe your city is different, but a good friend of mine ran and couldn't make it because of this.

The only way your taxes can be raised if it is approved by the voting citizens of your city. The board proposes bond elections when they need more money for schools, but it still has to be approved by a majority of the city. I think it would be an excellent idea to run for the Board. I'm sure they could use some fresh, young ideas. It takes a lot of your time,but it can be rewarding.

i would move to a city where education was important. I guess idiots want company.
