Dumb Ass vs. Smart Ass, why are both considered bad when they are logically the opposite?

there s a lot of truth to that old saying,everything in moderation.there is a center line that if people veer away from they are considered to be doing wrong. eating would be one example,its as wrong to eat too little as it is to eat too much.

Since when is being a smart ass bad? I love being a smart ass--it makes it easier to deal with dumb asses.

Because they are extremes. If you're a dumb ass, people think you don't know sh*t, if you're a smart ass, the implication is that you "think" you know more sh*t than you do. But both of them assume that what others think means more than what you think about yourself...Ut Oh, that almost sounded DEEP!!!

Both irritate. But a dumb ass is just kind of pathetic, whereas a smart ass irritates because he "got you."

Either way you're using your ass so basically you're usually full of 'it' both ways.

Because either way you're getting called and "ass". Leave off ass and then you'll see the difference.

Maybe because those two are extremes, and who likes extremism? That being said, wouldn't it make sense that an "Average Ass" should be best? Well, I don't. Maybe it's the word "ass". It turns a word into a negative phrase. But in that case, smart alone is a nice word. But dumb is still negative. So, wouldn't that make "dumb ass" a double negative? No, I don't think so. But still, a dumb ass is more likely than a smart ass to use a double negative. And then, what about the average ass? Even if the average person isn't an ass, the person is still average.

Both are asses. How is that opposite? That's like saying Dems and Reps are different. Really? They're both lying politicians, aren't they?
