I find that each rock band has it's own merits good and negative.The Stones did go through a long period of relying on their old standards.They were more creative at one time.I found the Who creative but separated too soon.

The greatest anything is always going to be individual. There are many great rock and roll bands I like better than The Who or The Stones ~ Cream, CCR, Led Zeppelin and Queen, to name a few,

I would go with the Beatles, as without the Beatles, the Stones would not have formed, but if the choice is the Stones or the Who, it has to be the Stones. I love the Who, but they have not had the influence of the Stones, due to the simple fact that the Stones have been together since the 60s and are still together performing. A true test of greatness is to ask people to sing a song from each group...my guess is that people will be able to sing a Stones song, but not necessarily a Who song.

I like The Who better than the Stones and The Beatles better than The Who.And then there's Spinal Tap.

While both of those bands were great IN THEIR TIME, neither is at the top of my list for greatest rock bands ever. They are just honorable mentions passed along the way. Currently, the "Strolling Bones" are proving a point that the elderly should not go out on stage and try to rock. It ends up looking silly.

I'd have to go with the Beatles and Led Zeppelin as being the greatest. Altho the Who and the Stones are both great bands.

I believe the sign of a good musical group is whether or not you will hear the music while on a elevator ride. 1) I've heard "Stairway to Heaven" 2) Most of the Beattles catalog 3) two of the oddest versions of Stone's songs. 4) and even the WHO 5) Beat it by Michael Jackson So to pin down the greatest is impossible but a great discussion point at bars.

I would have to say the Who are the greatest. Having seen both bands live many times, The Who's concert's were more fun to party with, enjoy the music with, watch the ==show and be amazed by the energy and whole concert.

Probably a tie. Both have a good variety of songs, a lot of hit albums, talented musicians, audience appeal, and a loud stage show which is a huge production to put on. If I had to pick only one, I'd probably go with the Rolling Stones.

Umm,you mean that's still together? Because if you mean the best band that's still together,I'd say The Who are the best. The Beatles beat them out in my opinion,but they haven't been together for 40 years,so they don't count. They could have pulled it off with only John dead,but now they're too late,because George is dead too!

Chicago is still and will always be No. 1. Their music is made by talented musicians. all have degrees in music. And, all of their songs sound different, like the Beatles. There are several bands that are fantastic. i also like the Guess Who and Gary Puckett and The Union Gap. But, Chicago is still the one.

The Who did some really groundbreaking work in the rock genre, like their album Tommy, the first rock opera ever. I do not think there is a greatest rock band. But I do think the Who did some really good stuff.
