I don't know any one who does, but I am quite sure that it happens, especially in lower income ares of the country. http://www.usps.com/postalinspectors/

I think it happens when people are looking for identities to steal or credit card offers to fill out and such. This is a federal offense I believe and if you are caught and prosecuted, good luck.

Aye..felons do as they would steal underwear not being worn.

Mail, as in letters inside the mailbox? I haven't heard of it. But parcels that don't fit inside the box? Absolutely. Happened to us, twice! And it was the same pesky neighbor who used to take our newspapers, too. Our mailbox was about 1 mile from our house at the junction of 3 driveways. All the boxes were together. THis one neighbort would sometimes take our stuff. Once when he took our paper, my husband saw him do it just before the guy wen down his driveway. Hubby got our mail, followed him home and said "Give us back our paper. If you want your own subscription, we'll BUY you one, just let us have our paper!" He gave it back and never bothered us again. He DID however take other people's papers after that! The nerve! What a jerk!

No, of course not, it the US we have no crime, and everyone is nice to each other, and we all have unicorns and rainbows, and we . . oh wait, sorry I was thinking of something else. Yes, we (at least in my area) have a problem with the postal service delivering mail to the wrong house, street, etc.

Yes, it happens occasionally. It's done by the same people that steal other things. Most people understand that the mail in your box is just like the TV in your house. It's best to collect your mail daily, because if this happens, it's often in the middle of the night when no one is there to see them. If you are going to be out of town for a few days, it's best to have your mail held. You can do it online at www.usps.com or by calling 800-ASK-USPS.

I remember once, the owners of a little store near my mom's house called her and told her that this guy was in there trying to cash one of her personal checks. The check had been made out to the mortgage company and the guy had marked through it and put his name on it. The sheriff's dept was called and he eventually led them to where he had thrown all the mail he had taken out of the box and gone through looking for payment checks. We both use P.O. Boxes now.

Do bears still shit in the woods?

They sure do in Canada..in apartment/condo complexes. A few years ago they got into our building and charged an $800 cash advance against my visa. I didn't have to pay it, of course..but it seems to be (or have been--I'm not sure if it is still happening) quite a thriving 'industry' in Vancouver.
