Help answer this question below.
Letters easily. There are only 10 numbers, and 26 letters, so they've the numbers outnumbered. Plus, the letters have more sharp edges than the numbers - can you imagine a fight between 8 and K?
Finally, the numbers can only call upon a small number of reinforcements, such as +, - and so on, whereas the letters can call upon the whole of the punctuation for assistance.
Letters, hands down.
Numbers. Letters don't count.
Who needs numbers when we have Roman Numerals?
Well, numbers for 2 reasons:
They haven numbers on their side
and
What they lack in brains they make up for in numbers
:)
Words are the most powerful weapon ever devised. Words cover a multitude/an infinite number of circumstances...numbers only matter when counting/accounting is the focus. Words win, hands down, no contest! :) Happy Saturday! :)
letters
We see all this talk about numbers being infinite...Who says you can't do the same with letters? Without letters you would only have binary and decimal....no hex
Numbers. Even reduced to binary, numbers can stretch infinitely in either direction. Letters just stop. And there IS strength in NUMBERS, as mentioned previously.
Numbers would win because once the letters were floored they would be out for the COUNT,sorry couldnt resist that one.
Numbers are infinite, while letters obviously aren't. Which means ... letters would get their asses kicked "to the bottom of the coconut tree" hehehehe
Numbers would win. Numbers are infinite, but there's only 26 letters. Letters are way outnumbered.
Wow, the word number has lost all meaning to me now...
Numbers because if you keep wiping them out, i.e. taking them away, you get even more (negative numbers). Besides, the numbers cannot die because there is even a number for nothing, zero, and the letters have 'space' (which isn't even a letter)! Also the numbers can duplicate - 9 9s giving you 81, all the letters can do is a H - giving you only one H. Letters are bound by rules, no word in the English language is devoid of vowels or substitute vowels there are no such rules with the combination of numbers thus they have more power over letters. Numbers can change form making them harder to defeat - 0.8 , 80% / 4/5, can letters bost the same? Numbers have infinite incriments from one number to the next, letters onlt have the odd difference in pronunciation. Numbers have POWERS, letters only have big and little.
So I am confident that numbers would win.
Letters for sure.
Letters. You can always represent a number by spelling it.
I think it would be a god fight but words can always form together to make some MEAN words! DIE, SLAUGHTER things like that. If they formed those words and then followed that action the letters would win.
You know you are up way too late and so tired that you start choosing sides between a fight between numbers and letters, lol!
Letters would win because they have a tendency to stick together in an orderly fashion which indicates clear thinking and the ability to strategize. Numbers are all over the place forming alliances with different digits at the drop of a hat.
Numbers would clobber the letters hands down..20 bucks.
Numbers of course! Even though letters can form up to make words numbers never stop!
numbers cause you can count on them for anything lol
Letters are limited. Numbers aren't. Therefore, I wager Numbers would win :)
Numbers, because the NEVER END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Numbers
Numbers hands down, no one ever said, "There's strength in letters." lol Cute question.
numbers would win
In order to place a bet you would do so with numbers. Without a doubt numbers are supreme! Who can argue?
Numbers are the only universal constant.
Numbers are hardcore.
Numbers would win any day.
Numbers,Letters would be out numbered. There's just not enough letters to win the war!!
Numbers would win hands down , over lettters any day of the week. lol, and iam beting 50 bucks, so ha.
Numbers cus since there is more numbers than letters the numbers will take the letters down!!
Numbers
Letters.
numbers have romens and Jason Voorhees on ther side (fri. the 13th) letters bow down
Numbers they can make more combinations
Why is six afraid of seven? Because seven ate (8) nine. Numbers are lethal. Not to mention the mathematical equations that would eat any concept of words we could come up with to explain them. That's what calc. is for.
But... But... Rhyme and Reason!
who can spell Knock Out
Numbers because there are only 26 letters, and numbers have the ability to multiply and Roman numerals have the ability to divide and conquer
there's power in numbers
numbers easily. letters can talk the talk but numbers can really add up to something spectacular
i'd pick numbers ESPECIALLY if we are betting dollars on it.. no numbers=no dollars
Numbers. There is an infinite amount of them, not to mention pi and e
letters, but only if they're capital.
Letters. Letters form together into little groups we call words that can spell out numbers with.
One
Two
Three!
(and more!)
There's an infinite number of meaningful numbers. Even if you put together all the words of all the languages of the world, you'd still have a finite number.
Here's the killer number though; the superhero among numbers: ∞
numbers ftw!! they are infinite, no matter binary or not. but numbers aren't very sharp besides 7 and 1, maybe 4.
numbers
i think times and dates would take over if they was not looking out
Offcouse Numbers as they have certain value but letters have none :)
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz verses 1234567890
wow....what a weird fight o.0 lol
XXXX you have just witnessed Randomosity by Bugz Bunnae :)
.Numbers, ..they outNUMBER letters.
...and since words(letters) are sometimes fickle and numbers are more concrete(absolute)....numbers weigh more..
.numbers will so subtract and diVide letters in twO and multiply in eVen more numbers. =P
Numbers coz letters stop at Z and numbers go on until trillions and zillions.

Very thought out, excellent. Hadn't thought about the reinforcement crews!

how can you possibly outnumber numbers? there are infinite numbers! letters can't just join together to create a huge beast like numbers can.
by yup. on May 20th, 2007
There are only 10 different numerical digits and 26 letters (in the English language). Therefore there are more letters. If you mean you can have 49875473563637, and so on, then in a similar way, you can have sdjtshgrtwyegrtitwu. Since there are more letters in the alphabet, there are also a greater infinity of possible letter combinations than number combinations as well. So how can you possibly outnumber letters?
by ChrisDG on May 22nd, 2007
By the above logic, Letters should easily win because any number can be represented in base-2 by the use of "1" and "0". Conversely, we could adopt a base-Umpteen cajillion number system and require a unique symbol for each quantity less than ump. caj.

As is often the case, the "winner" is highly dependent upon how we structure the rules of the contest...:-D...

I reckon you've got waaaay too much time on your hands. :)
by ChrisDG on August 4th, 2007
Yeah, so...what's your point?!?...:-D...
by Old School on August 4th, 2007
Not so fast if you compound the numbers doubling each time letters don't stand a chance.
by koldkanuck on February 6th, 2008
How do you mean?
by ChrisDG on February 9th, 2008
1+1=2
2+2=4
4+4=16 etc.and so forth and so on to infinity!
by koldkanuck on February 9th, 2008
I think the biggest disadvantage letters have is that they don't always get along with each other. For instance, the Q generally won't even go to work unless he has U by his side. In fact, all the others have to have A, E, I, O and U near them or they can't even make any sense out of life.
.
You can easily pack any number of numbers together and they'll figure out what to do.
by yup. on February 9th, 2008
best answer yet.
by koldkanuck on February 9th, 2008
Dan - you're only saying that because you think in terms of English. If you include other languages, then there is much more 'cooperation' between letters...;-D....

Why can't they just learn to live togehter in peace?
an alphabetical numerical co-existance.
by koldkanuck on February 9th, 2008
Ah! You make a good point, Old School. Still though, I don't think letters could possibly be any match for numbers.
by yup. on February 10th, 2008
On your side with that!
The entire universe is based on mathematical equasions.
by koldkanuck on February 10th, 2008
Not all words have vowels in them. And not all words with Q have a U following it. But my point is that there are more letters than digits, using this alphabet. 26 versus 10. Hence letters would win by force. And the idea that you can put numbers together, well you can also put letters together. No-one said they had to make sense together.
by ChrisDG on February 14th, 2008
There is a lot more than 10 numbers!
by Uluru on May 10th, 2008
Then I haven't made myself clear. In the case of 5483, that is a combination of numbers, always composed of the same ten digits. Although there are an infinite number of number combinations, because there are twenty six letters, you can make a larger infinite number of combinations of letters, if you get my meaning. Basically, you are restricted to 10 numbers, and 26 letters.
by ChrisDG on May 11th, 2008
all numbers may be made of the same ten didgets, but they are all still distinct numbers. 1 plus 0 equals 1, but that doesn't mean 1 is equal to 10, which is 1 and 0 next to each other. But you can't combine letters the same way. If you put A and B next to each other, you don't get a new letter, you just get A and B next to each other.
by Uluru on May 19th, 2008
Digits are to numbers as letters are to words
by Sunshine n Lollipops on November 11th, 2008
Haha, letters would have them "outnumbered" xD ahhhh.
