  • I think it's only truly been practised in small groups. As far as I know, anything larger has always seemed to get corrupted; even small groups tend to go bad after a while. I think human greed ruins it, which is why consumerism works so well. But don't quote me, just an opinion based off of what I remember from college :o)
  • Yes-in Cuba where it has been a great success despite decades of an illegal US embargo and hundreds of acts of terrorism carried out by the CIA.
  • I don't believe that this planet has ever seen true Communism. If you read "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx, you will see that Capitalism is a pre-requisite. His hypothesis/theory is that Socialism and Communism will evolve from Capitalism when the working class (defined as those who sell their labor) overthrow and rule the upper class (defined as those who own the means of production). Russia went straight from feudalism under the Romanov dynasty to "socialism" under Lenin. There are many good arguments contemporary to Lenin on why this wasn't possible, but the strongest argument is that capitalism and democracy had not first been established. As for "Communism", it self-destructs as an economic model without the pre-requisites, so there is no real need to fight it. Where this "communism" (for lack of a better word) exists, it is contained and even eroding. China is growing as an economic power due to more free-market integration.
  • No it's not. Don't get hung up on scientific communism and what you read in books. Communism existed centuries before Marx. Marx used communism and socialism interchangeably. Communism is merely a system where resources are for the benefit of the people rather than the masses. There are no strict rules. Communism can be molded to fit the situation, it is not a rigid religious belief.
  • If you mean "real" as in "pure Marxist", then I think it's wonderful in principle, but horrible in practice. Simply when you give everyone equal shares without expecting equal effort and work, you're inviting people to slack off. Then again, pure capitalism, where you live or die depending often on Fate, doesn't work either. What I think would be most effective is a system similar to the one today, where everyone can start off with their basic needs fulfilled (eg food, water, shelter, etc)--however, luxuries, comforts, and improvements on those basic needs must be earned.
  • Communism can only succeed within a very small community encompassed by a larger society. As a national government it is doomed to fail, and has repeatedly. Any government that places government above the individual freedom and enterprise of it's people is doomed. There cannot be freedom without individuals having more power than government. Many fools have bought in to the theory that the government can control the nation best and re-distribute wealth and they have all been wrong. Hillary Clinton is wrong for this same reason. It's complex but the truth is that Communism is a total hoax.
  • REAL communism is scientific, humannitic. No country had ever made it true. Someone said that some country like Soviet, China, North Korea are communism country, but not exactly. * The soviet failed ON TH WAY TO communism. * China is now searching her way. * North Korea seems like a monarchy country rather than a communism country. I am a native Chinese of China main land, but I don't believe REAL communism can come true in my entile life.
  • Failed editting the previous answer(#6) for a few times. Had to re-answer. ============================================ REAL communism according to its original difination is scientific, humannitic. No country had ever made it true. Someone said that some country like Soviet, China, North Korea are communism country, but not exactly. * The soviet failed on THE WAY TO communism. * China is now searching for her own way, she says that she is at the huniro section of socialism and she don't know how long will this section last. * North Korea seems like a occlusion, autocratic monarchy country rather than a communism country. I am a native Chinese of China main land, but I don't believe REAL communism can come true in my entile life(or even in my grand childs' lifes).
  • No, I don't think so. I think that communism is a pipe dream that runs contrary to basic human nature, but setting aside my own personal opinion, I don't think there is any state that would claim to be "communist." Now they might claim that's what they're working toward, but the countries that most of us Americans think of as "communist" actually call (or called) themselves socialist -- which they consider to be an intermediate stage between capitalism and communism. That's why the second "S" in USSR stood for socialist.
  • No I don't think it has. Various types of communism have probably been practiced successfully for sustained periods within tribal situations. Its not really the same kind of communism though is it. I think its a nice idea in its pure form - not very practical in reality, and as a concept it is bound to always be hijacked and twisted (as we have seen in the USSR, China and Cuba). We haven't seen Marx's communism.
  • In THEORY, yes. In ACTUALITY, no. Because every time a communist state has been shown to have become fascist, suddenly all of the other communists in the world claim that communism has yet to be given a "real" chance.
  • No, Marx's 10 planks have never been implemented without corruption or supply hoarding.
