this is the piece that sold.

because he's andy warhol. why does bad art always fetch such high prices?

What do I think about it? I think it's ridiculous. There's not a piece of art in the universe worth that much money, I don't care who the artist is. Setting aside investment potential for a minute, whoever bought it has more money than brains and/or good taste, but that's me. 71 million for a painting is so far past ludicrous, it's obscene.

That kind of money is obscene for a painting..any painting.

I think the rich were trying to out do each other. The painting was not worth $71 million. Maybe the purchaser believe it might be good investment for later on.

Andy Warhol was a genius. The only person who should have gotten that much money for his painting was him. I know hes dead so that didnt happen. What made the price go up is a simple case of suply and demand. There was only one of them and the guy with the money really really wanted it.

Well, this a late submission, but I don't care! Andy Warhol's work isn't necessarily about aesthetics or even ideas (some say the meaning of his work is to be meaningless). If anything this painting is a piece of history. Just because Andy touched it it means something. Why we're so fascinated with him, well, that's another story. Of course even $71 mil seems a more than a little ridiculous for a piece of history. Perhaps if I was a billionaire and it was either that or a new mansion I'd buy it just for the hell of it.
