  • God explained the original sin when he expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden. All mortals are affected by the original sin. Those who believe that Jesus died on the cross for their sins are forgiven.
  • The original sin is NOT a central point in Christian belief. This concept is absent in Jewish theology. According to Augustine of Hippo, unbaptized infants would go to hell because of original sin. This is not part of the official doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church (you can accept it or reject it). The understanding of this notion differs among the different christian churches. An interesting discusion can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_sin
  • Original sin is quite clearly spelt out in the Old Testament. When Adam and Eve sinned (rebelled, disobeyed) they were cast out of the Garden of Eden. Literally (and symbolically), this meant being cut off from God. No descendant of theirs would be allowed to enter. UNTIL...Eve was promised a descendant who would "crush the serpent's head". (Genesis 3:15) That was the promise of the Messiah, who would restore the relationship between God and humanity.
  • The original sin is taught in the Scriptures in the Old Testament. David even mentioned that he was born in sin in the Book of Psalms. "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." -Psalm 51:5 I hope that this is helpful. -In the Master's service. Thank you and God bless you!

  • Yes, Borasalama, you understand correctly. That is exactly what the ransom sacrifice of Jesus is about.--Matthew 20:28; 1 Timothy 2:5, 6; Romans 5:12, 15-19. Please bear in mind that this was not imposed on him against his will.--Philippians 2:5-8; Hebrews 12:2. Being more than merely God or Lord or even Allah, Jehovah (Yahua) the God of Abraham of Isaac and of Jacob, is like that. He and his only begotten son are both willing to treat people better than they deserve, if only they will accept it. Many Christian Bible versions use the weak and ambiguous word 'grace' to discribe this trait. Some, notably the New World Translation and the New American Standard Version, use the more meaningful terms 'undeserved kindness' or 'unmerited favor'. You and i don't deserve everlasting life and earning it is way out of our reach, but Yeshua happily paid the price for our salvation. Not so much the sin, but the remedy for it and the sanctification of the Creator's most holy name are central Christian teachings.
