To it's neighbors, it's very existence is all the provocation that is required. The land on which it sits is Jewish ancestral land but after the diaspora of the Jewish population arabs moved in and for thousands of years built a life and set down roots. It should be noted that Jews never completely left the area. They lived in relative peace until the UN almost overnight declared the formation of Israel and the settlement of return Jews began to displace Arabs and the conflict ignited. Other Arab states joined in and there it is in an overly-simplified nutshell.

It's hard to figure the laws of cause and effect, but I think it safe to say that when the UN created Israel, the people who previously occupied the area were not amused.

Of course if someone imposed SEVERE travel restrictions, bulldozed my house, and conducted military sweeps of my neighborhood, I'd be pissed too. Israel isn't making things any better but so long as the US has veto power, the UN is powerless to do anything about it.

uh.. yea. they exist. virtually all american intellectuals at the time were against creating israel, including genera george marshall, and i still don't undertstand how a great leader like truman, who was aware of the implications of israel's creations, could have approved it. fucking jews had no business there, let alone being in charge after a 2000 year absence. if they had wanted it so badly they could've led an armed invasion against the romans after being kicked out by them. you know, the old fasioned way, like the scots leading an armed insurrection against the english. somewhere around 60,000,000 people died during world war II with god knows how many having lost their homes and being displaced, and for some reason, only the jews were given consideration. if i was living in palestine and the jews said, "hey, we're moving in." and then they said, "by the way, we're in charge and we're taking away most of your rights and livelihoods.", i think i'd be a "terrorist" too. not a big fan of muslims either, particularly the ones living in europe. but i'm with the palestinians on this one. as an american, i consider israel our worst mistake.

Yes. Zionism, the creation of the biggest concentration camp in history: Palestinian Territories.

    My 2 cents.

Apparently all Israel has to do to provoke their neighbors is to exist.
I don't pretend to understand it.
Sometimes I do wonder why they would want to be somewhere that they are so hated.
Let it go and move on. Life would be better that way.

Israel has been faced repeatedly with challenges that many countries have never had to deal with. Thus, Israel has add many unique successes, but also some unique failures. For these, Israel deserves criticism and must be held accountable. That said, Israel must be judged fairly and her actions compared with countries who were faced with similar situations. Often, this does not happened and Israel is singled out for brutal criticism and is held to a standard that no nation is held to.

For one, look at the UN Human rights council which has passed unimaginable number of resolutions against Israel. Odd how these are often led by the most virulent, undemocratic, human rights violaters in the world.

It doesn't matter what wrongs and mistakes Israel makes, there is no justification for the intentional murder of hundreds of Israel citizens. Killing civilians intentionally is a whole different ball game.

Almost any nation or relgion has done wrong in the past (with maybe just a few exceptions).
Israel was created as an aftermath of the holocaust - one of the greatest wrongs ever done to a people.
The problem is the state was created in the middle of other peoples lands. This is more a fault of Britain (my country) for dividing up Palestine using natural borders rather than political borders. Britain not listening to Laurence of Arabia...
So Israel was created in an area surrounded by people with completely different ideas on religion etc. who feel their land was taken away from them to make way for Israel.
One can understand why the Arabs are upset. One can also understand why Israel is always concerned for its security.
Israel has done some pre-emtpive strikes against its neighbours e.g. bombing Nucleur plants of Arab nations.
Any other country doing this would be condemned by the UN and severe sanctiopns taken but America would never support that. On the other hand - when those countres would readily use nuceur weapons agaisnt Israel if they had them - you can understand why Israel needed to act.
In the past the Jews profitied out of the Crusades. Taking money from both sides - so they were hated for that. This is not Jew bashing. The Christians performed enormous attrocities as part of those crusades. The Muslims did too (I feel they were more reactionary in those incidents rather than the instigators). Like I said nearly every nation and tribe has done some attocities / bad things.
Today I look at Israel as a nation that would like peace with its neighbours but is in fear for its existence.
So yes they have done some things, and some things are more circumstrances - but the Israelites / Jews... have had many attocities done to them. The holocaust must never be forgotten.
PS Im an atheist. I am not against religion - I do not intend to offend. I understand that relgion brings a lot of comfort to a lot of people. I just wish the religinos could get along. UNfortunately most of them have that one special commandment - I am the one and only true God and the rest are false. Does make it difficult for them to get along...

The jews have been persecuted for thousands of years. The americans along with the United Nations created the state of Isreal. The only thing the jews are guilty of is existing. The palestinians kill woman and children like cowards. The israelis use stragetic military strikes to defend themselves against such cowardly terrorist strikes. If you saw a bus full of children blow up like my auntie did in israel, then almost any attacks are justified.

Yes, being Jewish and not Arab. IF Israel converted to Islam, and allowed all of it's Jewish citizens to be killed by their neighboring lunatics, then all would be peaceful in the region. In reality, Israel has proven to me to have shown way more restraint than anyone else would have been expected to and has more than enough right to have gone into full attack mode several times in the past decades.

I think its mostly because of the middle east area, and the fact that Mesopotamia, the ancient civilization that lived there, has had several problems when it comes to being agreeable with the countries and environment. In reality, this has been going on for almost all history of man.

Very much so. If you look at the history of the Jews, even in the Bible, they made themselves persona non grata everywhere they went and did so simply because they feel that they are superior to the rest (you know the thing about being god's Chosen People and all that). Since biblical times, they tried to do to the other tribes what they have finally done to Palestine until they were finally kicked out of the ME. Then, they scattered thru Europe and they managed to do the same thing all over again. Now, they're back in the ME and, well, I don't have to tell ya what's happening. I worked with a Jewish guy who once told me in conversation that what happened to them in Germany, they brought upon themselves. So, it's not so much that - as they claim - they're hated and persecuted and the other countries want to exterminate them as they bring it upon themselves.

I'm sure that they have. They did get their land awarded them by the united nations. I dont think they did anything that warrants any of the violence that is done to them.
