It's recommended that you keep them inflated to the proper psi as described in your owner's manual. Underinflated tires can cause poor fuel mileage and overinflated tires can be a hazard.

Less air in the tires causes a drag of the tire surface to the pavement, thus more power is needed for the drag, thus less gas mileage. Most government vehicles run the max. on air pressure in their vehicles. I would do neither of the above. Only use the manufacturers suggested air pressures and check your tires at least once a month for proper air pressure.

They should be kept properly inflated... remembering that in colder months that they should be checked & filled more often than in the warmer months.
