  • I have heard that echinachea helps with moods.
  • Treatment of Pre-menstrual syndrome Pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) naturally occurs as a periodic side effects brought by hormonal changes during woman’s menstruation. Symptoms of PMS include mild bloating, fatigue, cramping, breast tenderness, water retention, food cravings and lethargy. Some women have severe PMS symptoms which include migraines, depression, cramping, anxiety, and weight gain as well as panic attacks. Fortunately there are several natural alternatives that women can try to relieve PMS pains. Some of these natural alternatives include herbal, and others include vitamins and minerals supplements. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists supported the evidence that suggests vitamins and minerals can help alleviate some common symptoms brought by PMS. The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology has published a study that significantly suggests that 1,200 mg of calcium taken everyday can relieve much discomfort and pain associated with PMS. Separate studies also suggest that the lack of calcium in the body also leads to PMS symptoms, which can be relieved by combining magnesium and calcium supplementation that is effective even on the worst symptoms of PMS. The Journal of Women's Health and Gender Based Medicine published yet another study that suggests that the administration of up to 200 mg of magnesium everyday can help relieve women’s water retention with PMS. Natural forms of vitamins and mineral supplementation based on the study that combats side effects associated by PMS includes B6 supplements, which can help ease cramps and help ease some of the mood swings or depression. It also activates magnesium inside the body. However, complications like neuropathy can be caused by too much doses of B6 or in excess of 100 to 200 mg. PMS symptoms can also be relieved by taking Vitamin E everyday with a dose of up to 400IUs. Studies also suggest that zinc deficiency can also contribute to pain experienced by some women suffering from PMS, which may indicate breakouts, acne and even depression. Taking zinc every day with a dose of about 15 mg can also help. Essential fatty acids or EFA also help combat anxiety, depression, breast tenderness and bloating which is common during periods. Women suffering from PMS may also take ate up to three meals of oily fish for every week like halibut, albacore tuna and salmon or at least 1 tablespoon of flax everyday.
  • I don't know about vitamins, but drinking peppermint tea can help relieve stress (and since it's an anti-spasmodic herb, it might help with cramps). I've also noticed that if I take Pamprin, I'm more relaxed and less grouchy.
