Yes. Before my one cat was rescued, he was feral. He now lives a happy, contented life as an indoor-only cat.

Cats are pretty adaptable. (They're also opportunists - and fast - you'll need to be very careful entering and leaving your place so he doesn't bolt out past you.) If your cat is of a fairly mellow disposition, you shouldn't have any trouble. If he's willful or nervous, it might not work. We had one cat once who so wanted outside that he expressed his indignation by peeing on carpets and rugs.

I have a rescue cat who is happier being indoors. She wasn't feral but she was a stray. She does not like going outside except I am out there. Either she had a traumatic experience or she has decided that outdoor life is not for her.

if you provide the stimulation your cat needs, then sure. the biggest issue with indoor cats (even those who've always been indoors) is boredom. you need to provide a high place, where he can feel secure, a place that's appropriate to scratch, keep the litter box sparkling, and provide some other stimulation, like access to a window so he can look out and/or a fish tank. cats love to sit and watch their 'prey' and the general goings on of their neighborhoods, so a cat tree in front of a window should do the trick.

Two of our cats were outdoor strays. One is entirely content inside and never even pokes his head out the door. The other, though he's happy and content, is a constant flight risk. There's just something about laying on the grass he loves. To solve the problem, we use a harness and leash to allow him to play outside. I think it will depend on the temperment of the cat but generally speaking, cats adapt very well and will be content with anyone who loves and cares for them.

Yes. Cats adapt well to most any circumstance...

I have had my for 5 years now, she's been an indoor cat since she was just weaned off of her mother. And, has never been outside. Unforunately, I am going to be moving, on an acreage and she can't be an indoor cat anymore. Any suggestions on if she is going to be able to adapt well to the outdoor life? She will have a garage she can stay in for shelter....but i am still worried for her.
