A person, and I prefer it to be a man, with big muscles and strong hands. Machines are torturous.

I'm really freaky about other people touching me, so I guess I'll take the chair if I must. I'd prefer neither though. :)

Machines are okay in between "real" massages... but they're no replacement for an actual person, especially a trained therapist. I do like the Migun beds in between my regular massages if I need a "tune up".

I've only gotten one massage from a person and it was a deep tissue massage and it nearly put me in tears it hurt so much. I was sore for a week afterwards. I'll take a machine over that any day.

Definitely by a person. A machine is absolutely no match for a professional.

Its got to be a person, preferably my husband who is a bodyworker. Great at Shaitsu, Tui Na, Hot Stones, Jin Shin, and more. He's fabulous. A machine could never compete!

A person. Before I moved cities, I used to see a wonderful massage therapist for a full body massage once a fortnight. It was amazing, well worth the money. I came out of the massage very relaxed and invigorated. Those words might sound odd used together, but it's true - the massage relaxed all my muscles whilst stimulating blood flow in my body.

Massage by anything other than a person, a trained person with 'intent' in their mind to help you, is never as good or even half as good. There is no way that something mechanical can feel it's way to those spots that need touch and manipulation, that can feel heat, swelling, softness, fluttering, hardness, change, like fingers and other bodily tools. I love hot stone massage, but without those personal knowing hands, it's just rocks as a massage chair or cushion is just plastic and metal.

I prefer a massage chair. No hassles of fixing appointments and having a massage according to your needs in the comfort of your home. I have an OSIM Noro Melody Massage Chair which I use daily. Its just awesome.

    I prefer a person.

I have been goosed by massage chairs in a way that made them damn lucky to be an inanimate object.

Even so I kicked it on my way out.
