Fine by me. I think most people are okay with that as well. Even if they weren't there don't seem to be many who are 'violently opposed.'

I asked my husband to marry me over 10 years ago, and it was wonderful. We had discussed marriage already and I though tit would be special if I asked him. It was a good decision, and it all worked out well for both of us. The only thing is I don't have a romantic story of how I was proposed to.. .because I did the proposing, but no regrets.

If both of you talked and thought about marrying each other. Does not matter who asks who. I think thats the key before a guy asks a girl or other way around they both should have talked about marriage. That way both understand what the other thinks about it.
