The 80's were, after all, labeled "The Me decade" by some. I don't see that big of a difference, greed and selfishness are still prevalent in society, with few exceptions.
-
Its all about "me" and not about "you", unless of course "you" are "me"...
-
No question that it's more prevalent now then it was 20 years ago. The "Me Generation" raised "Me first" kids.

No! The "me" attitude has been around since Cain killed Able. Peoples values are different today. We are nearly 50 years from the love is all we need idea's of the 1960's, 70 from the "New Deal" promise of the end of poverty. I am too old to tell you what todays values are. I hear many people put down the ones I live with. "Me"? Yeah... me, me, me, you, me, me, me, you. That is old as the bible.

A new study would suggest so. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-esteem27feb27,0,225486,full.story?coll=la-home-headlines

People of many generations are now joining the "me" generation. EVen older ones are caving in a joining the ranks of the selfish, me first, me always right, me never wrong. Everywhrer I look people are claiming their rights, their this, their that, and gone or the days of generousity, of helping out others, of true wide communities all holding close ties. Not that everybody loved one another but there was a sense of respect and honor that youhad for other folks that is gone now, that everyone seems entitled to something, usually the best, and to hell with others. It was starting to show 20 years ago and I don't remember it around in the 60s at all. When the hippies came out they rebels of a kind but they at least had a sense of "us" and didn't only think of themselves.

YES. It's not just the "me" generation, it has become the "WE" generation. With IM's and cell phones, friends are constantly networking. It seems like no one can make a decision with checking with his or her "network" first!

Yes, it's very true. I wonder about the 1970's, the so-called 'Me Decade' as compared to today.
