  • I've heard that too. I don't know if it's true but even if it is that's still a pretty significant difference. After all Carbon Monoxide is only one atom different from Carbon Dioxide and that makes a huge difference and molecules can be a lot bigger than an atom.
  • I don't know how healthy it is, but it's not nearly plastic. http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/butter.asp
  • Yet one more reason why I use butter. I heard that margarine has to be white in Canada because of the Butter Industry lobbyists.
  • Do you mean one ion? Rather than one molecule? In any case, no. Its composition is not like that of plastic. It's no better for you than butter, and no worse. Until recently, the news media touted all-vegetable-oil margarine as much healthier for a person than butter, but that myth has been exploded.
  • probably stuffs bad for ya like butter i just say forget all of that stuff clog your arteries on something else
  • Yuck, who wants to eat plastic! Let’s get technical for a moment. Plastic is a polymer, whose ingredients may include polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, acrylic, silicone, and urethane. Margarine is an emulsion of naturally processed vegetable oil, water, salt, vitamins, and other functional ingredients that ensure the safety and quality of the finished product. Emulsions consist of two or more ingredients that naturally do not remain blended or “in suspension”; and need added ingredients to keep them together; think of it like oil and water. Other types of emulsified foods that you may eat include deli meats and salad dressings. Living a healthy lifestyle includes eating moderate amounts of various types of foods. The margarine industry has been in the forefront of reducing the amounts of trans fat, and adding more functional ingredients to its products to support health. I've been working with the National Association of Margarine Manufacturers so I've learned a lot about this particular topic. In addition, heart disease runs in my family so I have a personal interest in the subject as well. Check out the links below for more information: http://www.margarine.org, http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/transfat.html#choice1 and http://hp2010.nhlbihin.net/cholmonth/q_a.htm.
  • First of all, you have to understand just how big a difference one molecule makes. To take you to the extreme, I'll show you how big a difference one atom (a small piece of a molecule) makes. Breathable oxygen is necessary for life, while ozone is poisonous. What is the difference? The oxygen molecule is made up of two atoms of oxygen, while the ozone atom is made up of three.
  • A substance is made up of molecules, which are made up of atoms. I'd imagine there'd be a variety of molecules in a substance based on corn or other organic oils. But thinking about the fatty molecules, even if there's only one type in margarine... "one molecule away" is meaningless; molecules aren't lined up in a neat row. Whoever started this internet meme must have meant that that molecule, with the addition or subttraction of one *atom*, would be a form of plastic. However, H20 (water) is one atom away from highly explosed H2, and so what.
