I have always found Lonely Planet travel guides to be really useful, up-to-date and full of good idea's, local history and fun things the "locals" like to keep secret. Here is Lonely Planet's online guide to San Francisco: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/worldguide/destinations/north-america/usa/san-francisco/ But I would also invest in the actual hand-held book/guide, which you should be able to buy or order from your local bookstore. Travel Agents also have loads of free, useful books and hand-outs on just about every city you can think of. Good luck! :)
