  • Because real life sucks.
  • We need fantasy for the same reason as we need dreams. In fantasy, we act out the problems of the world in a non threatening manner, using symbols to represent aspects of our character, hopes and challenges. The various "peoples" are types of those we meet in everyday life, with all their strengths and faults. In fantasy we can find resolution, and we can also change approaches to problems if we find that one way does not work.
  • It reminds us that we have a soul.
  • <----FANTASY IS MY EXHAUST PIPE!
  • To escape reality
  • Science fiction has led to many great inventions ... and imagination leads to and becomes reality ... !!! ... without "wondering" there can be no innovation, and we would still be hiding in the caves and tree tops in a pre-stone-age world.
  • because as human beings we love to be entertained. we create fantasy to entertain ourselves and others, and along the way we gain knowledge. if we didn't do this our world would be one of dull routine.
  • because reality is boring
  • hmmm i wonder if i'm going to get attacked for this answer... well in my opinion, the majority of the fantasy books out there actually paint a picture of a world that is a microcosm of our world. let's take the tired overly analyzed world of harry potter. if you really look at it, you see that every single bit of that book can be applied to our world today. ok so take out the magic.lets look at the ministry of magic: many governments go through the cycles that it has gone through. and the dark forces. really, im sure everyone can pull out a bit from the battle against voldemort that can be applied to our world. doesn't voldemort remind you of hitler? he brainwashed people, he killed what he called mudbloods. hitler had youth groups, and killed jews. so really, i dont' think it's an escape from reality. i think it's looking at reality from a different point of view.not all fantasy books do this but many do
  • Because if we can't see it we can't achieve it and our imagination/fantasy allows us to do that.
