  • "Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal and petroleum (fuel oil or natural gas), formed from the remains of dead plants and animals.[1] .The theory that hydrocarbons were formed from these remains was first introduced by Mikhail Lomonosov in 1757. In common parlance, the term "fossil fuel" also includes hydrocarbon-containing natural resources that are not derived from animal or plant sources. These are, however, properly known as mineral fuels" So indeed, dinosaurs has little to do with it.
  • Fossil doesn't just mean dinosaurs - it means any remnant of a living thing from a past geological age. So all dinosaur remnants are fossils, but not all fossils are dinosaur remnants. Fossil forests, in which whole trees are preserved, are quite common. And, co course, fossil fish, ammonites, trilobites etc.
