The term jumps down your throat means that when someone is sharp or bitter when answering you. If you say something and you are in a good mood and they are in a rotten mood and then they speak rude to you that means jumping down your throat. Yes, it hurts if I am in a very good mood and some one is rude and jumps down my throat then I in turn will jump down their throat. Also if they answer you quick or accuse you of something.

Only if they go head first. They get stuck halfway down when that happens and your throat cramps up. OW;-)
