The latter. That way, you are able to at least make an attempt to help people in most subjects. Furthermore, your general knowledge is improved, and your small amount of knowledge in one subject can help you vastly in another

That's a really thoughtful question. I think I'd choose knowing a little about a lot of different things because I think it would be easier to relate to people and the world in general, and therefore be easier to make your way in the world.

The challenge and sense of discovery when connecting knowledge from different disciplines is quite satisfying. . . .

I would like to know everything about one subject; The Universe and everything that goes on in it. When you think about it, it is humans that compartmentalise knowledge so initialy all knowledge is just one subject.

I have found it better to find where my best abilities lie and focus there. Better a knowlegeable person about art than a mediocre mechanic.
