  • What IS your old countertop? Usually the whole thing gets taken off the cabinets. There should be screws or nails from the underside holding it in place. THen you will have to replace the tops with layers of plywood or some kind of solid surfacr like granite, corian or silestone.
  • if its glued down and not nailed or screwed , use a putty knife or a stiff scraper to break the glue bond between the countertop underside and the top edge surface of the cabinet, then carefully pry the top off a little at a time with a flat prybar from underneath between the cabinet and underside of the countertop. Be careful not to damage the countertop, go slow.
