  • Just use plain water. The detergent actually makes very little difference. See: http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a4_007b.html
  • Is it that important to wash the clothes now? Wait until tomorrow and go buy some more.
  • a very small amount of dish soap? Better to short the clotes on soap than have that episode of 'The Brady Bunch' and many other sitcoms in your laundry room.
  • Don't use washing up liquid, whatever you decide, not unless you want to be mopping suds up. I think I'd prewash and wash. If you really feel you want detergent you could handwash with washing up liquid and rinse and spin in the washer.
  • Shampoo! Use cheap stuff, like suave. I've done it before, just don't do a monstrous load or there will be bubbles everywhere. Smells pretty, too. :o)
  • When I was single, I used to wash all my shirts by hand using Palmolive Dish Washing Liquid. If the clothes are 100% cotton, they will last longer and will stay better looking if you do them by hand using dish washing liquid, or maybe Woolite. I read on Consumer's Report that Palmolive is as good as Woolite, but a lot cheaper.
  • If you have plain soap (not deodarent)shave some of it with a veggie peeler into a cup of hot water. It will sort of dissolve. Then add that to your washer along with 2 tablespoons of baking soda. A big glug of vinegar works, too and helps keep the colors bright in clothes.
  • I reccommend dishwashing liquid. It a great substitute.
  • Dishwashing liquid! LOL! Worked in a pinch for my family once or twice before! LOL
  • dish detergent
  • If it is your own machine you don,t have to you can get an extra load just by running the machine because of the residual sop left from previos loads.
  • How about a new wardrobe?
