The doctor's scale is the most accurate type. However those are expensive and aren't normally available at Wal-mart. The best type to get is probably a scale with a large digital interface, possibly a Tanita.
You can go to Gadget Universe and find a quality scale. It's easy to read, the numbers are at waist level.

The latest one we purchased at work: One of the Tanita brand name models. The problem is: It cost close to $500.00! I can see on the website that they sell cheaper alternatives, and they must be accurate. They are at the top in terms of quality and precision for that kind of products. I also want to get me a good one, I will post if I find a cheaper Tanita.

I have been using the glass digital scales and they are fine i got hold of a flat thickish piece of wood to stand them on so that they are level,i never put them on carpet as it can give out a false reading
