Being raised in New York, it is because we are in a hurry to get nowhere...we think if we ride their ass, they will move...;)

So if someone takes you out on the road, at least everyone around us will go down too.

What ruffryder said plus the fact that, at least in the NY City, people have no concept of personal space.

If they leave any room between them and car in front, someone will cut in front.
